Too fast for a Speed Awareness course?
I just received a NIP for doing 66 mph on a motorway in a 50 zone. My first ticket in 20 years of driving. Yes I know, I am a very bad man, and deserve to be hung drawn and quartered. Having since been past the camera again, I'm still amazed I failed to spot the 50 signs.
My question is at this speed of 66 in a 50 zone, will I be offered a speed awareness course or is it too fast and will receive points and a fine?
After 20 years of driving a refresher is probably not a bad thing. Incidentally to maintain my microlight flying licence I have to spend an hour with an instructor every two years, where the chances of causing injury/damages to a third party is much less than driving.

64 is the usual limit (limit + 10% + 9mph) for a 50, but you never know. An offer of a course is completely discretionary.
Send back your completed, signed, S172 form nominating the driver and see what you get back. It's likey to be a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty (CoFP), £60/3 points. Remember to keep a copy and obtain proof of posting from the PO.I am a mortgage broker.
