Buyers preparing for Christmas?

Have the buyers disappeared for Christmas already?

Will they be back in the new year or Easter?

Any thoughts on this dip in demand would be appreciated.

Around here it's always busier straight after Christmas/New Year than it is at Easter.

Would agree. I'm a potential buyer who would love to buy before Christmas and to be honest, would happily move over the Christmas period due to the fact I'll be off work for 2 weeks. However, we are a young couple both moving out of parents so it's not like we have kids, etc. to worry about.

TBH solicitors disappear from their offices around four days before Christmas and don't come back until well into the first week in January.

This year, it'll be Friday 21st December, until about Monday 7th(ish) January, so anything you need to get done has to be done before the big getaway.

So, if you are unlikely to complete by 21st December, you've had it until well into January.

  • My boyfriend's been looking to buy a house and we were told by some of the estate agents that we've met that they just can't call it at the moment, buyers are buying at times of year when they expect things to be quieter and so no time of year is off limits at the moment!

We are just starting to look to sell and all three of the estate agents we had around advised us to wait until February to put our house on the market as they said its just gone dead and expect it to stay that way until then.
  • We have a completion date(2 FTBs moving in together from parents) of 7th December. Mortgage decision is due through the post on Friday at the latest the bank are saying. They claim its 95% certain this far.

Bit crap how we dont know if we can actually buy it until 2 weeks before due to get the keys...so could see us waste 4 or 5 weeks faffing about getting things together/sent off/the people we are buying from back to square one.

No mention of our solicitor being off over xmas period but we should manage well withn the time, a weeks delay at most surely.

Xmas is best time for me to move, work is seasonal, i have 2 weeks off and its too dark to do much outside anyway!
