We hear 'I'm Welsh' or 'My grandpa came from Wales" etc quite often.

Create a file with all your financial info, passports, birth and marriage certificates, degree certificates etc - and store it well out of the way - you don't want to find it's been packed in your shipping container.

Hi BritAbroad, thank you so much for taking the time to give that info, it's so useful. Especially the above. I think I'll scan and email myself copies on my yahoo & hotmail addresses as well, just so I've got everything. It's something I should have done years ago.
As regards the kids delaying school, I think what you've suggested sounds very reasonable and logical. I spoke to my hubby last night about it but he wants them to go straight in so that they have a chance of making friends on the 1st / 2nd day when school is not immediately back in the routine. It'll be my decision ultimately, so will think on this very carefully.
I think that is the thing that I worry about the most - how they will settle in. My older one is quite confident, but my younger one is much more reticent and although only 2.5 years apart, one will go to a junior school and the other to middle school.
Thorsak - we're going to be in east CT bordering RI. The schools also have the yellow buses :rotfl:. I'm also planning on volunteering for everything from school stuff to dog walking for old people just to get to know people. Did this work for your daughter - how is she settled, and does she have a good friend network?
Anyway, after my whole long list of things, I can cross ONE thing off. I cancelled my tv / broadband / phone yesterday. I've been really busy the last couple of days, but I'm going to aim to do at least 3 things off the list each day.
I received my stickers from the moving company (air, ship, and do not pack) so will start stickering everything.0 -
I did go on the britishexpats forum (can't get on it at work) and it does have really good info, thanks.0

Sorry have not read all the replies so the following probably have been mentioned dozens of times.
Keep your UK bank accounts open. Even open more before you leave. Afterwards it will be almost impossible to do so.
When you are settled in early next year email them with the new address and it should not be a problem.
Almost every expat says the same.
If you don't have a google email account set them up now for all adults AND teenagers. Then it will not matter which Internet provider you are with and how often you change. Google email like Dogs are/is foreverThere will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0
