Acoustic insulation

  • Fibre board insulation is a very good insulator and very good at sound proofing.

You will need a decent thickness but it will do what you want. Ideally you will want to cover the batons to prevent sound. The up side is you will have a toasty warm flat :)

All be it a slightly smaller one.

you can get accoustic insulation but you could also get nhbc involved who will have guaranteed the property against defect for 10years at least if its right you will have a second opinion which shouldnt cost you anything worth a try wimpey might just be fobbing you off especially as they wont let you have the results

The NHBC have refused to get involved, they say they do not deal with noise transfer,we have been trying to get someone to listen for 3 years now.Wimpey have now even stopped replying to my mail.
  • by the sounds of this you need to get an expert involved nhbc sound like they are also fobbing you off there are building regulations regarding noise transfer in buildings and it could be that these measures in your building have in part not been applied

What is this about then ?http://www.nhbc.co.uk/Productsandservices/ConsultancyandTesting/Acousticservices/FAQs/#d

Also the regulation require that accoustic testing is carried out before final completion, you should have been provided with a copy of the certificate and so should Building Control..
What are the applicable Regulations?England & Wales

Approved Document E 2003 (incorporating 2004 amendments) sets out the applicable regulations for England and Wales.
    • Requirement E1 covers the requirements for protection against sound from adjoining buildings or other parts of the same building
    • Requirement E2 covers the protection against sound within a dwelling
    • Requirement E3 covers reverberation in common internal parts
    • Requirement E4 covers acoustic conditions within schools
However tests are often fudged, we were looking to buy an appartment but soon realised that there was a floor noise problem from the flat above . We asked to see the accoustic test report and it was immediately obvious the developer had done the tests in the carpeted lounge rather than the ceramic tile floor kitchen. We walked away.
