Potterton Suprima 50 HE Boiler problem

Options
Hi,
I have a Potterton Suprima HE 50 boiler that was working fine until Saturday.

The boiler will fire up as normal for a few moments but then go on to lockdown.

According to the fault board indicator (the lockdown light is the only one alight and is flashing) that this is an air pressure signal fault.

Any ideas what the problem may be and what is needed to fix this?

Many thanks
Jaime

    Hello

How Old is the boiler? I have had some poor luck with boilers so know a little but I am not a gas engineer / boiler technician so please bear this in mind reading below:

I had a similar problem with a boiler that was due to a frozen condensate pipe, but was it cold enough last night?

After you reset it does it work again today?

There are a multitude of other things it could be from dust in the fan assembly / failing fan (that pipes air into the boiler) right down to the circuit board itself being at fault.

If the pipe is not blocked and it doesn't reset I would bite the bullet and call an engineer - Monday in November is a better time than late December when engineers are mega busy.

    Best of Luck
  • The house was built in 2005 so new from then.

I dont think it can be down to a freeze, it hasnt been cold enough.

I can reset it and it works as normal, fires up for a few moments, radiators start to warm then it locksdown. The longer I leave it the longer the system will run (got 10-15 minutes this morning)

The fan sounds like its working fine.

Just trying to establish what could be the problem before I get someone out so I know what would need to be replaced,

    Thanks for the reply.

It could be low water pressure in the system? Is it working with a big pressurised tank upstairs? My boiler (same) will cut out is the water pressure is too low, I have to check the pressure periodically on a metre on the tank and turn on two little black taps to increase the pressure.
  • I originally thought this and when I checked the pressure had indeed dropped to 0.
I turned the taps to allow pressure to build back to where it should be but didnt make a difference???

does it continue sparking after it has ignited?
If so, then it sounds like its not flame sensing
  • Thanks for all the replies.
I posted on a few forums to see what response I would get and to be honest its been mixed as to what the problem could be.
Anyhow, I have left the system off for a week as I planned to bleed the radiators to see if the was any build up of pressure that was causing the issue.
Very little air in rads, tried system again, fired up as normal but this time never went to lock down, run for about an hour before switching off due to reaching thermostat temperature. I raised this and the system fired up again for another hour or so before I shut if off. has run fine today also.
I hope what ever it was causing the problem is now fixed, somehow, fingers crossed.
What I have noticed is that I do not have any heat to 1 radiator and partial heat to a further 2 radiators even though I have bleed them?
I guess this may have been causing this issue???
