Mortgage PPI Query

Hi,

Hope someone can help with this one.

Back in May 2003 I took out a mortgage with Halifax complete with Life/Accident/Sickness/Unemployment cover. At that point I was fine, no illnesses or problems.

In July 2005 I took out a further advance on the mortgage of £10000 to cover some bits that wanted doing to the house. The month before I had seen a specialist about a back problem I was having and was referred for further tests. This resulted in an operation in November '06 and I am still off work from it.

Now I am beginning to get a bit more "with-it" I am trying to work out whether or not I am covered under the ASU policy or not! As far as I was aware when I took the additional money out nothing happened with the original sum but looking through the paperwork it looks as if it was re-mortgaged, although the rate of the initial sum didn't change. In that case I presume I wouldn't be able to claim as I had an existing condition when the additional sum was taken out. Am I right? I initially thought that I would be able to claim for payments for the initial mortgage but not the further advance but now I'm not so sure!.

I keep going round in circles on this one! I could put in a speculative claim to see what they say but if I do I will have to pay for medical records from my doctors.

Anyone any thoughts?

Karen
