I think someone found my address illegally

Anyone can find out almost anything about anyone with a little research. It isn't difficult.0

A lot of information on the internet if you look.
Some wally way playing up in a chatroom. A quick search found 2 addesses, Start of the postcode was the same.
A quick mention of a couple of names and they stopped being a wally.
Quick search found his neighbour had applied for planning permission for a conservatory.
I pretended that was my uncle.
Freaked him out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Easiest way is to make a Subject Access Request to the DVLA quoting your registration number to see who has made searches on it.The man without a signature.0

I did wonder about that. If you could request a list of all/any requests for information.
How far back would this data go? Include requests from the police for speeding etc?
Or the fake speedwatch letter i got a few years back.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
How do you know they didn't just follow you home sometime?0

you are guessing and pointing a finger to a buisiness that you have no proof that disclosed anything to anyone your only suspicion is a link between the two.
theres many ways to trace someone, electoral register (if not ticked no junk mail no passing on information between companies on the form), theres also the phone book, eventhough you think you maybe ex directory BT seem to have a hard time not publishing the numbers in the phonebook alongside you address that will inturn have your name next to it (or the BT account holders).
theres also FB, if your mates with one of his maes and your privy setting arent on friends only he will get your name there, plus if you use a mobile that gives you current location when you post there will be your area of address couple that with possibly knowing your reg detail you only have to drive a few streets to find that car parked on that drive or outside that house.
i'd be carefull if you start pointing fingers at the dealership, slander would be you main concern if it affect their DVLA portal and they the police and DVLA find no issue or abuse of the system that you claim.0 -
I can sympathise. Totally!
I worked for a pharmaceutical company many years back and it was at a time when animal protesters were pretty active. I only ever did IT work for them on contract, just to clarify. Anyways, entering the car park one day, I noticed one of the hemp-wearing shower-dodgers writing down my registration number. He even tapped on my windscreen to show off his reading and writing prowess. There I saw, clear as day, my registration number.
After discussing with my Boss, he assured me that it meant nothing and you can't get anything from a reg number.
Well, dayum. It sure is surprising what sort of damage a hemp-wearing idiot can do it seems!. My car was reported stolen on three occasions, necessitating the police to pull me over; I had the police turn up on my doorstep regarding a hit and run accident which apparently I had been involved in (I wasn't!); I even had a missing person's report taken out which I understand you need a name and address for but magically the police are under no onus to disclose who raises a missing persons report - so the police complaints commision told me! All they could tell me was that there was concern for my well-being.
Things came to a head when driving to work (I had since moved to a new job) and I happened to see some people I recognised from the protest walking around my area. Same dress-code and I know one of them saw me. To be honest, that's the first time I actually made the connection! A few weeks later, mine became the first (and only) house to be burgled in that street - the only comparable being a few houses a few blocks over burgled about 6 years prior.
Long story short, I moved, sold the car and then refused any more contracts for pharma companies ever again. The police were less than crap, telling me I had no proof and they can't go arresting people just on my say so. They made out like I was bothering them by even mentioning what I knew. They seemed to take slight at the mere suggestion of reinvestigating who raised my missing person's report. It shows how interested the police are in actually investigating issues; they seemed satisfied that they'd hung around my house for a bit, went "Oooh yea, that's terrible", took some fingerprints and drank my tea!
I have no idea who your guy is or what the deal is there. All I can suggest is that if you start getting these problems, sell the car. Second, if people start turning up at your home, move. I was lucky in that I was living in rented. Now that I'm not, I'm damn careful about who I disclose information to. Even my current employer doesn't have my full address or birth date.
I know it's technically running away, but if they're determined, they won't stop! And there is nothing the cops will do for you. Sorry to be the voice of doom, but I had 18 months of this crap. It was only when I sold the car and moved out of the area that my problems magically disappeared!
Sure the animal terrorists won, but I don't care. Seems they were going to win anyway!

Melanie,
I'm not being funny, (and I'm a detective by trade) but it's taken me literally 30 seconds to find your photo and your mobile number. If you gave me half an hour I'm sure I could tell you enough about yourself to deeply shock you.
I'd suggest that you review what you post online, and that there are many far more straight forwards ways to find out information than dodgy car dealers or even the DVLA.
My dad was a heart specialist, and did research on heart disease and heart attack recovery. He used smooth muscle tissue taken from pigs hearts, which he went and collected from the local slaughterhouse himself. Anyway, he ended up on one of the "lists" of ALF.I can sympathise. Totally!

One memorable christmas, we got a poster tube sent to us that we weren't expecting. It was a crudely constructed parcel bomb, with a charge and a bunch of nails pointing at the end of the tube. It wasn't addressed to him though, it was addressed to me. I was 8.
It's estimated that his research in clinical practice saves around 10,000 lives a year.
I don't really like or respect "animal rights protestors".0 -
Hi, OP!
I checked through some posts here and entered some info in google - is your middle initial "L"?0 -

I'm all for animal welfare, but these animal rights protesters just seem to be missing core values and intelligence. The ones I've met through my travels are all about sticking it to the man and class war, but not one of them could count to ten or spell words without moving their fingers or looking up at the sky.
That said, the cross section of police I've met weren't any smarter. Which is a shame as I used to have a deep respect for our force. My few encounters with them have proven me wrong in every way.0
