Not a fair comment at all. Following my taking another meter reading today at 4.30 pm which showed a useage of 19 units, up from the previous day, I switched off virtually everything: the immersion heater, my laptop, modem, telephone. The only thing left on was the fridge. Then I went out for several hours in a bitterly cold day. It is hopeless just switching everything off for just a few minutes. That proves nothing. I compared the meter figure on my return and it had only gone up one unit. Then I had my evening meal, mainly involving boiling some water and throwing some canned vegetables into a pan, and took another reading. Again it had only gone up by one unit. This almost certainly suggests it is the immersion heater which is the culprit causing the problem. On the other hand, my meter could be over-recording the consumption from my immersion heater. How to tell?
I am sorry for such a long ongoing thread but I will not be posting again on this matter as it is just taking up bandwidth with no solution in sight. Many thanks for all who have replied but you won't hear from me again. David.
  • I think you have now found the problem is your immersion.
Try not using it and just boiling kettles for what you need.
