Hi guys
I have damaged my laptop screen sadly. I do however have a perfect monitor that will do OK as a screen. The only problem is that when I connect HDMI to HDMI it won't display anything on monitor after initial boot up. It will let me start and will display OK in safe mode if i simply switch off via on off button but if I then shut down normally it won't then display when booted up normally. Please can anyone help ?? Thx in advance

In safe mode a default set of drivers will load including a video driver of limited resolution. Maybe the full boot is going to a resolution that the monitor can't support? You could try booting in safe mode and uninstal any third party video drivers.
Also, its surprising how easy it is to change a laptop screen, if you'd like to try that route drop me a PM0 -
Thx. It seems to work fine if I connect via HDMI to my lounge TV. The other TV has HDMI (connection probs) and also has video and other conns in your view would any of these connections work better than HDMI?Onwards and Upwards

What resolution was the laptop display? What resolution can the TV/monitor support? (There's a possibility that no matter which connection option you try, the TV resolution may be exceeded hence won't show a display).
If you can connect to the TV in the lounge, set the display properties to the same (or less) than what the other monitor can support. Hopefully this will allow you to connect to the other monitor normally. You could then gradually increase the resolution until the monitor loses signal ... if this happens just wait 15 seconds and the resolution will revert. Then you'll have the monitor connected and working at best resolution.

You might find a key combination like Fn + F5 will switch the video to the external output. Look at the symbols on the F keys at the top. Generally I've used a VGA cable though I can't see why hdmi shouldn't work.
As has been said if the screen is obviously damaged fitting a new one is fairly easy if you're handy with a screwdriver.0 -
