BT Charges for Caller Display

Hi all,
just wondered if people are aware that BT, since February have started charging (again) for their Caller Display function. This service became free about two years ago, announced to the general public with much fanfare. If you made the effort at the time, they would remove the charge from your account if you had the feature already, or you could sign up as a new user for free.
I've just had a delightful conversation with a BT customer service rep who explained that the free service was a promotion, now withdrawn; however, BT feel that they do not have to announce this to existing users - the service just appears as a charge on your bill. Although this the cost is relatively small (£1.48 per month), per quarter, per customer this amounts to a huge revenue for BT.
I feel that the underhand way that BT have gone about this warrants consumer rebellion. The customer complaints department address is BT Correspondence Centre - TVTE Gateshead, NE11 0ZZ, join me and inform them of your dissatisfaction!

It has been discussed here a few times already. Its still free as long as you place 2 calls a month through BT. Most BT Customers are likely to do this.
If you use their line rental but put your calls through another supplier (cps) it will cost you say 2x 5.5p evening/weekend calls 11p a month, which seems reasonable to me. Bearing in mind that most other suppliers charge between £1.50 and £1.75p a month for the service.

Click on caller display info.
"BT residential customers making some calls on the BT network can opt in to receive Caller Display for free, subject to availability. Analogue lines only. Caller display equipment required."
You can make serious inroads in your BT bill if you follow this Guys advice. He covers Caller Display cost reduction.
