I looked at a few web sites earlier, but then got side tracked.

One site said the price of cans had dropped from £1,000 per Tonne at the beginning of the year, to £750 per tonne at the beginning of Oct.

Another site said it was £600 per tonne today. And that was one tonne "bails" compressed, strapped and delivered to the scrap yard.

So that's 60p per Kilo, if you can get a scrap yard to take a Kilo, or near enough 1p per can.

If you can, it would be easier to give them to Tesco in exchange for a point per can.

If you flatten them you can get about 10 kilos[550 cans] in a garden rubbish type bag

I have a couple of extra wheelie bins out the back of the house and I put ali and steel cans in em along with any other odd bits and peices of metal that appear around the house. There's very little money in doing it, I just add them on to a load when I'm taking other stuff in (my hobby's playing about with old cars, so I generate a bit of scrap). .

To put it into context weight-wise. A washing machine generates a tenner or so.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

  • Its never going to make you rich but its easy to do, very little time, hazzle and no start up costs.
Ive been doing it for years and have got five bins in the shed, 1) ali cans, 2)just ali like sweet wrappers, takeaways etc, 3)copper, 4)stripped copper wire, 5)brass. I look to weigh in once a year and get a fair return for my time anywhere between £200 to £500. It does get a little compulsive and you can give yourself a pat on the back as your doing your bit for the planet.
If you dont want to go to a scrap dealer (theres loads but just inquire what their paying) then you can always e-bay it.

Reminds me, my dehumidifier went bang tonite, so will be stripping that for the various metals.

I believe that the Tesco recycling centres also take glass, so if you live within a short distance of one then it is worth saving your throw-outs to convert into points. These can be saved for special deals were you get better returns than simply using them for foods shopping.

Maybe you could take a bag of tins to a scrap dealers along with some other material?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
