Working past finishing hours

If your hourly rate is minimum wage and you're being asked to work more hours than you're paid for then you're not on minimum wage.

If you fill in that form and post HMRC will investigate and eventually they will tell your employer if they don't want a fine, to stop the unpaid overtime and to back-pay every instance of unpaid overtime.0 -

your late you owe me 15 mins
if he wants you to stand round for 15 mins stop work at 3,45

It's standard practice in retail. You could complain, but to be honest, you will probably be singled out as a trouble maker and "managed out of the business"
Get on with it, finish college and work towards finding yourself a job where you don't mind going the extra mile. Retail is not a career (I worked in retail for 12 years before I realised that) even the managers are poorly paid and treated badly.
Look at it as a means to an end, do your best, get that experience on your CV and then take yourself elsewhere.0 -

I dont see why you should have to stay any longer if your not getting paid.I certainly wouldn't..Its alright for these managers on their fab salary's,and paying crap money to everyone else.
Managers do not get paid fab salaries in retail, I used to work for two very large retailers in the HR departments and saw the salary ranges, in some cases the managers only got about 50p per hour more than the staff.
Unfortunately 10-15 minutes isn't going to be paid. The only thing you can try is amending your working hours. When I was at school I worked for House of Fraser and worked 4 hour evening shifts. I started at 5.15 and finished at 9.15. Just remember the end time is the time you leave the shop floor to collect personal belongings or sign out, not the time you leave throught the exit door.0 -

It depends on the job though, if you're on a salaried job comfortably above NMW it's often accepted that you'll need to work a bit extra unpaid if the circumstances call for it. Low paid retail work should be paid based on when you clock on and clock off, expecting a 'free' 15 minutes is taking the p1ss. Especially given what these places are like if you're 30 seconds late coming back off your break or leave 2 minutes early when there's nothing left for you to do.0 -
to put things in perspective for those moaning about working upto an extra hour
a few firms that im contractracted by do not pay their fitters for travel time home for example they can be sent in any far corner of the country which could be upto 6 hours travel time so theyl go out early in the morning around 4am and do full days work and as soon as they leave site they wont be paid so they could spend upto 6 hours traveling home not 1 of them is on more than 7.50 an hour
and ive never heard 1 of them complain about it

They are 17 working 4 hour shifts, it is likely they are in school/college, in which the 48 hours unpaid work they are doing would be better spent on school work and would see a far greater return.
There is a massive difference between a career job and a NMW job. People on NMW are dogs bodies, they are not hired for their skill, it is a position where 'impressing' your boss will do very very little.
Those 48 hours may be better spent on school work ... but lets be honest, they wouldnt be spent on that.
If it is the sports shop I am thinking of then the managers get paid for 9 hours a day/ 45 hours a week yet regularly work much more than that and even sacrafice their dinner to deal with customers etc.
Moaning to them isnt going to make a difference for a few reasons
1) they work more unpaid hours so are unlikely to sympathise
2) they have no control over the pay
3) you usually need those extra 10 minutes to swap properly with whoevers taking over from you and finish your jobs for the day
4) Lifes unfair.0
