Praise & Vent: Appliances Online & Currys

Vent:
Took my elderly Grandfather to Currys today to choose a new washing machine, his faithful 21 year old machine has died. It was a Bosch so in his mind he wanted another Bosch but told him he had to go with what his budget would allow, which was about £300 all in.
Had a brief look round before being approached by a young lady, very pleasant initially, however, when we told her what we'd like, a 1400 spin, something with a quick wash, 6kg drum and our budget, she almost exploded with laughter, then said 'I reeeeeaaaalllly doubt you're gonna get anything near to that for your money', which irked me as they did have a few Indesit/Hotpoint and Hoover machines that met the criteria in the price range.
Well, grandfather picked a machine, that one was out of stock, chose another, 2 weeks delay, picked a final machine, yay, they have it in stock.....with free delivery, which was for a date 2 weeks later or £23 for delivery this week.
We decided to leave it as he wasn't getting the machine he wanted plus I felt £23 was a lot for delivery and 2 weeks for free delivery wasn't really an option as he didn't want to wait. So politely declined to order the in stock machine to which the girl shrieks 'I've just spent ages looking out these machines for you!!!' I said I was grateful but really we were looking for his first choice machine, so she huffed a bit then flounced off. Whilst she wasn't bad as such, it was just the way she treated us as if we were a joke and telling us delivery was free but making initially, no mention of the delay in delivery and then giving us varying prices for delivery this week which was narrowed down to £23. It just wasn't clear from the outset without lots of questions that there was a delivery time scale that was free and that there were so many varying prices to get an item delivered this week. On our way out we were asked if we had found what we were looking for, so I said 'No not really' and the young gent says 'Oh, dear, can I help?' I tell him we are going to look online as we didn't feel that the prices were particularly competitive, so he says 'Oh, now Comet are all but gone we don't need to be', I think that says it all really.
Anyway, he wants a new machine, but he wants it now or very soon (I only have a 206 so no way are we getting 2 kids, him and a washing machine in my car!!)
Praise: We go back to my house and we go online and use Appliances Online (I've bought from them before and always been pleased).
He picks himself two machines he likes which suits all his needs but is reluctant to order online & wanted to talk through with an 'expert' (I did tell him they were telesales people not engineers!), so he rang them and thankfully, they were very helpful on the phone, with him, explaining each feature of the machine, exploring his use of the machine, what he wanted. They sold him a machine, a Hotpoint, which he is very pleased with. Even more pleasing to him is their next day delivery, fair enough it is £9.99 but this beats Currys hands down. We're not having it connected as I'm doing it, there was no warranty hard sell, we're not taking up their recycling as our council collects for free (first 3 times) and again, no hard sell on additional services.
He was on the phone for a good 35 minutes and he says he felt that he was listened to, he felt they understood what he was looking for and were eager to gain his custom. So, a big thank you Appliance Online, you've made his day!

Must say, I bought a fab washing machine from Appliances Online earlier in the year. They price matched it so it was ridiculously cheap, plus next day delivery, they kept us updated with delivery times etc, and the delivery men were lovely! Fab company!0

This is one of a myriad of reasons why one should'nt buy from Currys. The only reason to go in any of their stores is to use it as a showroom and then go order from elsewhere online.0

When I moved into my flat I needed a cooker, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Got the lot from Appliances Online, they were excellent, good value and when I discovered 2 of the trays in the fridge door were cracked, they arranged new ones to be sent out the next day.Getting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

I bought a washing machine from Appliances Online a couple of weeks back. I live in a 3rd floor flat without a lift so was worrying about delivery. Rang and spoke to someone just before 10pm, very friendly, we got delivery on a Saturday for free, and the deliverymen carried it up to our flat despite them not having to go above 25 steps. Great service!0

Cannot fault them whatsoever, I sent them an email thanking them, as I do believe in thanking for good service, had a lovely reply thanking me for recommending them and would pass on my thanks and Grandad's thank to delivery men.
My mum has just ordered a new fridge freezer with them tonight, she's getting Sunday delivery at no cost, ideal as she works odd hours, again exemplary service and well over £50 cheaper than Argos & Currys0 -
hi, could you pls let me know which washing machine you have chosen, as I am totally confused with all the choices around & not able to decide on which one to pick. I have got to buy a tall fridge, u/c freezer & dishwasher as well before moving into my new home this weekend. Any recommendations welcome. thanks.0

Hi blueruby
My Grandad's budget was £250-£300 so he went for the Hotpoint HV7F140P which he is really pleased with.
Dishwasher wise I bought a Hotpoint SDL510G I am pleased with it.0
