can anyone make a suggestion???

now I know this isn't strictly dfw but I've to write an essay for my higher english course discussing the pro's and con's of a topic. Many choose to do euthanasia etc but due to my current situation (ie my dfw'ness) I'd love to do one on a debt related topic. Mainly because I'd find it more interesting but also I think it's a topic rarely tackled and would love to be the one to start :D

some suggestions on topics (in brief) given by the course are...

*issues surrounding a national front march, my opinions on it and the possibly outcomes
*aberdeen councils new legislation targetting beggers who refuse help other than begging, whether or not I agree and issues raised by it
*cheap prime time tv dumbing down our culture, my opinions

you get the point! I can't really think of anything off the top of my head but I've had no dealings with bailiffs, collections companies etc etc which may be a good topic to study and was hoping you guys would come up with something. obviously credit would go to this site for the information I'll gather from here so hopefully some sqa bod will see it and join in!!!

(erm just to make things easier I go to college at 5.30 tonight and I think he wants some info on our essays.... )

Bankruptcy could be quite an interesting one - loads of room for moral debate there (as we've seen recently on a few threads!)

What about the pros and cons of leaving stuff until the last minute... :rotfl:

I just used to turn up with loads of bits of paper with scribbles and crossings out on them, and say 'I'm currently at the planning stage' - used to get away with it too!

for your information the college are even worse than I am, I've only about four weeks left until my final exams and only now are they giving us deadlines for our personal study (essay on a book) and this essay! I'm really really p'd off about it, these are things that in my opinion should have been dealt with before xmas so we could concentrate on our exam prep and not stupid things!

i agree about bankruptcy there is loads of comment on the web try the BBC site as there has been debate as to whether or not people are using it as a quick fix because its easy and there is less stigma.

you could look at the pro's and cons of DFW lifestyle and bankruptcy

I think maybe the problem with bankruptcy is the wide range of arguements for this. one thing that did occur to me...was there not some posts a couple of weeks ago about new legislation for bailifs that they could come into folks houses??? not having that problem I didn't pay any attention to the actual info but that might be one thing to look at.

How about the proposal to give bailiffs more powers that was highlighted a few weeks ago?

Yes, that would probably be quite interesting to research, and there's quite a lot of info around about it at the moment.

There is the bailiff problem/new laws coming in.
There is the bank charges problem/what refund will mean.
There is the lottery/the Govs raid on the lottery
There is the IVA problem/lenders not liking it.
There is the inflation pro/cons debate.
There is the whole debt - good/bad debate.
