Ca insurance premiums going up after someone else hits you

I'm aware that this is normal, any there isn't much I can do about it, but nevertheless it seems fundamentally wrong. I have never in my life caused any sort of road traffic accident. A few months ago, I pulled over and came to a complete stop, as did the cars in front of me, to let an ambulance through. Meanwhile, the clown behind me was too busy chatting on the phone to pay attention to the road and ploughed into the back of my stationary car a few seconds later.

Went through the usual insurance process; the other driver's insurance company admitted 100% liability, also confirmed by the police report, and my no claims bonus was therefore reinstated. However, since I am apparently now more likely to have an accident in the future (as a scientist, I can say that this is a clear abuse of statistics, but I don't expect insurance actuaries to understand that), my insurance premiums have nevertheless gone up, by over £100 per year (best dummy quote comparing identical situations except for including the accident), and will presumably continue to do so for the next five years while I'm obliged to mention this.

Isn't it time for a change in the law to prevent this? It seems fundamentally wrong that a driver declared to be 100% innocent is nevertheless penalised to the tune of over £500 because of someone else's error? I can't think of any other walk of life where it would considered okay for somoene else's accident to cost you £500+.

had the same problem my self some lady driver though it would be a good idea to pull out of a petrol station and into the side of my car in broad daylight on a straight road. And yes you guessed it went through all the comparisons sites my premium was loaded by about an extra £30 not much but the point is she held full responsibility and 100% claim paidi in my favour.

    You just can't win

I agree totally with you, it is grossly unfair.

For myself, Ive been hit twice, luckily been with 2 companies who havent upped the premium, Coop and Aegis.

But youre right, something should be done about it.

    But what????
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
