  • I am not keen on the Kindle Fire having heard that the Nexus and Samsung is better for it's kind and that if I need to replace Kindle Keyboard 3G then it will be the Kindle Paperwhite 3G version.
As for Kobo etc why not? in addition too perhaps to put wind up Amazon.?

  • go with the kindle - its the way forward! :-)
  • I would say Kindle as range of books is so much larger, Kobo has a more conventional selection.

  • When i bought my Kobo Glo back in December 2012 i did so because they have over 2.5million books/newspapers/magazine titles in their book library in comparison to the kindles 500,000 book title library. The kobo library boasts that over 1million of those titles are absolutely free.

The kobo touch and kobo glo both have anti-glare screens (my mum has got a kobo touch) and both screens can easily be read in direct sunlight. Personally when it comes to price + book titles + features the kobo wins hands down for me :)

I love my kindle. It is lightweight and easy to read. There are LOADS of free books on Amazon - I have around 3000 and have paid for no more than half a dozen.

Amazon have a CS dedicated to Kindle, which is staffed by people who can help you with any problems. Also you can buy a Square Trade three year extended warranty from Amazon which is worth it as it also covers accidental damage. When my 2 yr old kindle broke down on Monday, I contacted Amazon who did some diagnostics with me, confirmed it was dead, put me through to square trade, who authorised a replacement, and it was with me the next day. That's service!

I know I'm reviving an old thread but don't see the point of making a new one for similar.
I've yet to decide if I want a kindle or kobo or nook. I know there is calibre software available to download other formats onto a kindle but can I download amazon books onto other ereaders and would any 'unlocking' need to be done?

As far as i am aware, books downloaded from Amazon are only compatible with the kindle. That said, they can of course be converted using calibre, but removing the DRM that is attached is
    a. apain
    b. probably illegal
    c. not always well formatted.

I have a kindle keyboard, and have enjoyed using it since they were first available, however I now use a tablet (Not as good as a dedicated reader) which means i can use different apps for whichever format the book i want to read is is.

A lot of libraries are now venturing into the Ebook realm. Most i beleive are using the Epub format, again these can be converted as above.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

    I agree with b, I'd say c sometimes and a definitely not.
I only use it to read my own books because I prefer using the same reader for all my books.
(if you download from amazon to your pc, you just click a couple of times and it's done, the next step depends on what device you use, but downloading to a tablet again is only a couple of click in front of your pc).

I love my kindle, have had it since August last year, and have downloaded about 300 hundred books so far, and as yet not paid a penny for any of them.
