threshold of earnings for disability element WTC

Can anyone advise what would be the threshold of earnings to qualify for the disability element of Working Tax Credits?

Are full time earnings of around minimum wage, £12K per annum, likely to be too high?

My friend is waiting for a claim pack to arrive through the post. She gets HRM DLA and is unable to walk 100 metres without stopping.

I can't find the relevant information as to what level of earnings might be too high to qualify. She's divorced, mid 50s and lives alone in a mortgaged house.

Thanks

  • I don't think there is a upper limit, as long as you are disabled and working you get the disability element. My husband used to get it when they finally told us we were entitled to it. Now he has had to stop work and we obviously don't get it any more.

There must be SOME upper earnings limit, surely?

I mean, presumably if you were earning £50K a year you would not be entitled to it!

I know there's an earnings limit for basic Working Tax Credit, though I've never claimed it myself. So the same must apply to the Disability Element of Working Tax Credit?

There is an upper limit, the limit depends on your circumstances.

If she works more than 30 hours, then the cut-off is 19,854. If she works 16-29 hours it will be 17,922.

That presumes she is single and qualifies for the dis element and has no children.

Thanks so much for that Icequeen. She's on about 20p an hour above minimum wage and works a 38 hour week.

She is single (divorced) and her kids are grown up in their 30s.

She definitely does qualify for the disability element and gets HRM DLA.

Just out of interest - do you happen to know the cut off point for basic Working Tax Credit?

I looked everywhere for this information without luck. So thank you for sharing your knowledge.

The maximum income limits for WTC only, WTC & CTC and CTC only are here: http://www.revenuebenefits.org.uk/tax-credits/guidance/how-much-can-your-client-get/maximum-income-limits/

  • That is a pretty useful table Icequeen99. I think I might start using it and issuing it to claimants at work. Thanks.

Zaksmum, I would suggest you take a look at the link Icequeen99 has given :-)

That's exactly what I was looking for, Icequeen. Thank you very much.
