(Just to be clear, I'm not asking for advice, we called the out of hours vets yesterday)

Our 2 year old was caught munching on a blue tit a few days ago. Given the time of year, I can only imagine that it was a rather ex-blue tit at that point, as I believe they migrate for the winter. A day later she had the most horrendous accident on the carpet. At least it explains her listlessness & lack of enthusiasm for going outside over the last couple of days.

She's still not right, and is obviously feeling a bit delicate & unhappy, although is eating & drinking well. It got me to wondering whether she'll learn not to eat another manky corpse again, or if her enthusiasm for small crunchy snacks will over-ride her memory of the last few days ?

It's quite possible the culprit was not a 'dodgy curry' from a few days ago - cats have evolved a very acidic stomach and short gut specifically to kill as much bacteria and possible then speed the remainder out the other end.

I don't think blue tits do migrate, but could be wrong.

hmmm, wonder what it was that caused such a violent reaction then? Poor Maisie's bum just emptied in one go over the nice new rug that we'd bought for the study. She's walked _past_ the litter tray in the lounge, only to pass judgement on the nice new swirly rug :o

Isn't that always the way! Hope she's ok though.
  • Blue tits tend to congregate in mixed flocks with Great Tits, Coal Tits, Goldcrests, Finches, that kind of thing. Safety and warmth, I think.

If Cat likes crunchy blue things, she'll keep on doing it. The rug was Cat's Law - buy a new rug, something will explode from one end or the other of the cat.

But feathers are quite a good source of fibre, so it wouldn't surprise me if it had an effect upon the insides a day later, even if fresh.

Now, if she has also been partaking of the small furry and crunchy contingent, she'll need worming anyway.

  • Blue tits do not migrate!!! So could have been a fresh one...
  • Could have been worse.

Could have been a plain fitted carpet.

Our cat used to eat toads, which made her very ill, and no, she never learnt!!

My blue-tits (mine in the sense I provide food and lodgings) don't migrate. They will congregate with great tits and sparrows and put up with the robins. They don't particularly like the finches and hate the sparrowhawk.

If Cat likes crunchy blue things

:rotfl: Sorry, that has cracked me up! One of ours also likes crunchy blue things but luckily seems to have moved onto crunchy small furry things instead!
