Hi Folks
I have wireless broadband via Virgin Media, and can connect my desktop and lap top to the internet without much of a problem. However, my kids have also have a lap top and they are always having problems connecting to the internet. Sometimes it connects but very often it does not. It even looses the connection when I am in the internet.
Could you please advice what I could do to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I have been having the same problem for months, keep ringing them up to complain but things don't improve and I am using their superhub.0

use inssider to establish if it's a channel interference and/or a distance issue in the first instance:-

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

What version of windows on each machine?
Are you using a VM Superhub or separate cable modem/router? (If the latter, please specify make and model of the router)
How far (roughly) from the router to kid's laptop? Does the connection quality improve if the laptop is moved closer to the router?
What does the wireless connection icon on the kid's laptop look like when they lose internet connection? (The icon is in the system tray, bottom right of screen, near the clock)How do I add a signature?0 -
Hi
I am using a separate cable modem/router on windows 7. The router is downstairs and the kids work with the lap top upstairs. It makes no difference whether or not they try to connect to the internet while the lap top is upstairs or downstairs. The wireless connection icon has an explanation mark (!) over it when it looses connection.
Thanks for any advice offered.0 -

I suspect this is just one of life's oddities. I also have VM via modem & router and can have my lap top in the same room as the wireless router and have no reception, yet have 5 bars in the next room. Weirdly an ethernet cable also refuses to work yet perfectly fine with the PC.0

Connect temporarily by ethernet to rule out wireless issues. If it is wireless, try changing the channel as advised above.
Are the other devices connecting by ethernet or wireless? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Check the ethernet port is enabled (Network and Sharing Center). If enabled, check to see if the LEDs next to the ethernet socket on laptop light up when cable is plugged in.
Also check the ethernet cable is not a cross-over cable. Some devices auto-detect and work with a cross-over cable, but others do not.How do I add a signature?0 -
