Help with Credit Card

I have recently got a credit card in order to increase my credit rating. Would it be better to clear it in full every month or to allow some to run over and pay a bit of interest?

I would go for the clear it every month as that shows that you have sensible spending patterns and are reliable at paying x

I have read that it looks better if you pay some interest so the lender makes money. Is this a myth?

Yes. It's not necessary to 'buy' a credit rating.

Yes, the lender makes money every time you use the card.

I too would recommend payment in full and would also suggest you do so by direct debit thus taking forgetfullnes out of the eqation :-)
