PB EasyNote PXE-E61 media test failure error

Options
SIL has given me my niece's Packard Bell Easynote P5WS0 laptop with the error message -

PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

I've tried removing and reseating the hard drive like I have seen on another thread but it still isn't working.

Can anyone help me with my next options please?

TIA

It looks like somebody has set the BIOS to attempt to PXE boot via the NIC.

You need to go in to the BIOS and set the hard drive as the first boot device and remove NIC or PXE from the boot order

HDD is first boot up option in BIOS, still getting the same reponse.

How do I remove PXE/NIC from boot order?

if the bios settings for hard disk are correct, it probably needs a new hd - is it detected by the bios, does it spin?

It is showing in the BIOS info list, yes. I can't tell if it's spinning or not though

    what's the history

if it's detected in the bios, it's either blank/unbootable (reinstall windows), or broken

No clue, she won't tell us what she did to it.

What should be my first stop? Re-install? We've got no discs for it so any pointers to where I can download/burn a copy?

you could check the disk out with a disk diagnostic boot cd from the hd manufacturer.

In case you did not create your recovery media or have no recovery media available, please contact our Customer service for information on how to obtain a set of Recovery Discs.
