Which credit card?

HI there,
I am looking for some advice. I have never had a credit card before and was thinking about getting one for 2 reasons. I have a couple of store cards which I would like to pay off and I have a £300 overdraft which I would like to pay off. The interest on the cards is high and the monthly fee for the overdraft is stupid. Is getting a credit card the vest way to go? And if so any advice on which one.
Thanks

  • Was hoping someone who knows a bit more on this than me might have had some advice. Any advice.... Please!
  • You'd need a card that allows money transfers for the overdraft, although you may be able to do BT for the store cards.

But if you haven't had a card before, you may struggle to get a decent deal.

What's your income, current debts and credit history like?

    Hmmm... Troll?
  • Hi there. I am a housewife. I get £1500 from my husband a month. The only debt I have is the overdraft and a Next storecard with £600 on it.
  • You'll need to find somewhere that will allow that as income. Some may class you unemployed, but you'll need to check around.
But being in your overdraft will make you a poorer credit risk, meaning you may not get any good deals.

Alternatively, your husband may stand a better chance of getting a card and could adjust the £1500 accordingly to pay it off. Unless this debt would be news to him?

Thanks for the advice. I will apply and give it a try
  • If I got a money transfer card and put 1k in my current account this would Clear my overdraft and I could pay off my next directory card?? 4% fee, is this about right?
  • Yup - that's right.
