Kindle Paperwhite

I have just damaged my kindle keyboard 3g and am trying to decide what I would replace it with if it can't be repaired.
I want a dedicated e-reader with e-ink, I am considering the paperwhite but not sure about the lit screen.
Does anyone have one who could comment on the difference between reading with a light source on an unlit screen and reading with the lit screen on a paperwhite?
I really dislike reading on an lcd screen and loved my kindle e-ink screen.

I have a Kobo Glo which is Kobo's equivalent of the Kindle Paperwhite. The brightness is fully adjustable and the clarity is superb.
I read a lot in bed or in poor light and I find it ideal. Prior to this I had tried reading books on a smartphone, a tablet and a Sony e-reader (LCD?) and books with a seperate book light but none of these were satisfactory.
In my experience the viewing experience with the Kindle and the Kobo is similar, but if you have a John Lewis store nearby try the Kindle for yourself, or WH Smith have the Kobo if you want to try that out.
I have no particular preference except that with the Kobo I can download books from the local library which I can't with the Kindle.0 -
i for some reason am not keen on the idea of the paperwhite. would be worth looking at one in a shop before deciding,do amazon still let you return kindles within 30 days if not satisfied?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Well Amazon did me a great deal, I returned my faulty 3g kindle to them and they let me have a new kindle 4 for £30. I wasn't keen on the kindle 4 so swapped with my DD for her keyboard kindle and am now very happy again. I am interested still in the paperwhite but will wait until they have ironed out some of the bugs.0

My almost two year old Keyboard Kindle broke a few weeks ago and I have replaced it with the Paperwhite, I am delighted with it. It is lighter I don't need a lighted cover and whilst there are a couple of "bugs" it is much faster than the old one.0

How have you found the lighting, this is what most complaints are about, either uneven lighting or pink/blue/green shadowing?0
