Online broker / platform - decisions decisions!?

I've been following the posts on this forum for some time now and have decided to stop lurking and register. Hi all!
Question I have is not so much "recommend a broker / platform" (as I've special_saver2's thread) but more "what are people's experiences" with various platforms?
Ideally what I'd like to do is have one broker / platform to keep everything in the one place to keep paperwork / admin simple. So far, ones I'm looking at are:-
HL - already have a S&S ISA with them but its currently empty (liquidated to pay for house repairs). I liked: reasonable research tools, good for funds discounts, great web interface, UK based, helpful staff. I was less keen on: additional charge for trackers / Vanguard, not the best for shares. The annual % they levy isn't that bad, but the lack of a "regular saver" / £1.50 per month option is a bit of a turn-off, and I'd prefer to drip-feed rather than just go for lump sums all the time.
TD - I like: good funds selection, regular saver option, their explicit "shareholder rights" service. I'm less keen on: whilst their brokerage services are covered by the FSCS, it appears that any cash held with them is only covered by the European equivalent. Call me cynical, but the risk I see here is: markets look like going pete tong, I decide to sell and stay in cash, things really go bad, further Euro contagion, TD's european bank goes bust, UK account holders put to back of compensation queue.
Cavendish - seems to be getting good write ups for smaller investors, which is definitely where I am at the moment.
Coming to the view that I may need one for funds and another for shares/trackers?
