Blocking Gambling websites advice needed

Does any one know of a way to block online gambling websites on Internet explorer, but leave access to all other sites.

My husband has once again run up large debts using this method.

I have blocked FF with fab results

Maybe somebody out there has first hand experience of this.

  • Look at K9 security. Its free, and you can elect what you want to block to tailor make it to your particular needs.
    £2012 in 2012 = £34.44
  • Blocking using browsers or firewall will be a never ending task.
Maybe the best bet is to have a password on the computer so you could monitor his online activities.
Does he need professional help regarding his gambling habits ?

Yes he does and for the first time in all the years I have known him he has admitted he has a problem. Has been attending GA for the last 4 weeks.

Having just a password is not an option. He has his own company and there are 7 PC's and Mac's there.

you should be able to do it about number ways (1)router - firewall? (2)pc host file (3) a blocking app (4)dns povider like opendns think they offer a clocking service. (5)pc fire wall, some can block incoming and outgoing sites

End of the day he will just use his mobile, or internet connection in pub, or free wifi.

Think it is more of the case "it is not the car, but nut behind the wheel" situation.

I'm doing all I can to prevent him having access at work. Having a look at K9 security at the moment. How do big organizations stop employees looking at unsuitable material at work?
  • Can his credit card company help in any way ? Do they have the ability to block certain transactions.

he hasn't been using a CC this time TG - he has been transferring funds on to his Debit card from company account

Stopped that - he's closed his accs on the internet and closed his personal bank account.
  • k9 is easily disabled by somebody who has basic computer knowledge.
It's more of a parental control than anything else

You may have a chance if he works for a very small company, but for an medium organization to change its firewall rules, and introduce filtering and content management can easily cost £50000. Plus he has to work harder (or steal), do extra hours to get the money to gamble, perhaps making him a better employee, so may not be in their interest.

What stops him buying scratch cards, betting or lottery? Then there are the tools than an circumvent all of these like TOR and VPN and sometimes even proxies.
