1&1 - Unbelievably Bad - PLEASE AVOID THEM

I'm currently in a dispute with 1&1 which goes along the lines of this:
I've been a customer of theirs for about six months, I get hosting and a domain name from them.
I work during the week, but during the end of September, I started getting calls on my home phone about their newfangled 'Plus' package. Eventually, when I did speak to them, they offered a free 30 day trial, which I accepted - at this stage I hadn't had a problem with 1&1 in any regard, so I thought I would check it out.
In the end, it wasn't up to much, so before the free trial period had expired, I followed their cancellation instructions, called their number and received a confirmation message shortly after, saying that the package had been "successfully cancelled".
Imagine my surprise a week and a half later, when I discovered that 1&1 had taken nearly £75 out of my bank (via Paypal)!
When I contacted them to ask what they were doing - a day later, they replied, saying that the package had not been cancelled, I had signed up to a minimum contract due to expire in 12 months and that I could not terminate it until that date.
I had to actually send them their own "successfully cancelled" confirmation message to prove that I had cancelled, because they wouldn't believe me otherwise!
They've now cancelled the contract (not that there should have been a contract in the first place) but have ignored the last three e-mails I've sent, asking about when I will be refunded my £75.
I'm giving them until the end of Monday to respond, but after then, I'll have to take further action.
Has anyone been in this situation before, or has anyone got any advice? Thanks in advance!

I feel for you.
1&1 billing and support are legendary for their incompetence. They are without any shadow of a doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with for support."Some folks are wise and some are otherwise." - Tobias Smollett0 -
Just the luck of the draw I assume, I've been with them years with no problems. Judgeing by how few posts there are I assume you have been very unlucky.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

1&1 are terrible. Avoid them like the plague. I had 3 domain names with them in the past, and every one of them encountered problems either during, or after when up for renewal.
I got a bill sent out to me for over £80 for one name one time that they claimed hadn't been paid although I paid at the very start to get the domain name in the first place. You really couldn't make this stuff up0
