Card Fraud. Someone raised my Barclaycard limit by £2k and attempted a £1.5k purchase

I received a call from Barclaycard today to alert that they had blocked an out of character £1.5k online transaction made by someone yesterday.
Thankfully they refused the transaction, the card is now blocked and I will get a new card etc.
However...this cannot only be a case of someone obtaining enough information to make a transaction...the day before, the fraudster had succeeded in having my limit raised by £2k, which means they had been able to somehow get past security questions on the phone with Barclaycard or had some other form of access??
I feel I need answers from Barclaycard on how this fraudulent increase in credit card limit was achieved. Who should I speak to? What should I do? Is there anything else I should be concerned about here?

You should speak to Barclaycard, why didn't you ask them about it at the time ?0

Hi, I raised my points with Barclaycard during my phone call this morning, and their internal fraud team will investigate but this strikes me as an internal breach (how someone was able to raise my limit). I am concerned that they may not share the root cause with me if this is the case. From fellow consummers, I'd be interested in hearing from similar experiences and what to expect.0

Don't expect to find out.I am concerned that they may not share the root cause with me if this is the case
It doesn't make good business sense for them to tell anybody how to commit fraud.0 -
Hi PKD.
I had comething similar a while back with my Tesco Finance card.
I was a bit annoyed that my card was suddenly blocked with no warning, but grateful that they had done it as it turned out somebody had tried to make a payment that for whatever reason came up as dodgy so they blocked the card. It meant I needed a new card etc, but at least they have an eye out for strange activity. I know what you mean though, about wondering how it all works! I don't know anything about how the card limit was able to be changed though. That does seem odd! Hope you manage to get everything sorted.0 -

Agree.
But does anyone from outside credit card companies and banks etc, take a look into how many fraud cases companies have and the cause of them.
Then if there is a re-occurring problem the companies are forced to rectify it quickly, although of course you would hope they would anyway.0 -
I wonder did they do the limit increase onlineDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

It's the bank, not the customer, that has to cover the cost of fraudulent transactions. Banks do closely monitor patterns of fraud - I know this as it's part of my job. It is in the bank's own interest to detect and prevent fraud because otherwise the bank suffers losses.0 -

ALL fraud is reported. And figures are published.
Sounds like someone had enough info to get through security and make the increase.
Or managed to get into OP online banking and requested the increase.
Many online banking sites show the last login.
Believe me. When this happens they will look at what has happened and make any changes as required. It will not require any outside body to make them do it....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

A lot of fraud is charged back so the banks don't always stand the losses. The retailers do.0
