Any type of sofa protection worth it?

Hi,
We have a fake suede (I think?) sofa that we got from AHF - it's pretty much the perfect shape for the room and really don't want to replace it any time soon (especially as it cost around £1,200) but slowly the cats are starting to ruin it a little - we have to vacuum it once a day because of them, and sometimes their mucky paws mean we have to give it a clean too, which is starting to take it's toll.
Is there any kind of fabric protector we can use on it? I know Scotch-guard isn't recommended due to some of the chemicals used, but are there any better, safer alternatives?
Thanks

What about one of the suede/nubuck sprays you can get used mainly for shoes (google it or look on Amazon for an idea) and get a suede brush (nap brush i think they are called)
They basically cover the surface and make them waterproof and make it difficult for stains to stay on surface or at least make it easier to clean
Would need to patch test and spray outside however as they may have some pretty nasty chemicals in some0 -
Thanks, that's actually a pretty good idea
It is fake suede (girlfriend is a veggie, so had to move the leather sofas into the office and get in this fake stuff!) but I imagine it should have a similar effect... patch test as you said is a great idea
