Days out for a family of four for under £40?

Does anyone know of any good days out anywhere in the UK that will cost under £40 entry for a family of four? (two adults and two kids)

Everything seems to cost more than that, but surely it must be possible?

Come on Moneysavers, help me out!

Hamsterly forest in county Durham.....the kids would love it :D

We went last week and had a good day. They have bikes for hire (dont know how much though), lots of people had picnics, ice creams and I had a lovely lemon cake and cuppa tea from the tearooms :D

I think its a bit far for you to go for the day though :D

Thanks Eagle - I'm not asking for me, actually (no kids!). I'm doing some research for someone else and thought I'd tap MSE-ers' knowledge. I'm trawling this board too but thought maybe if I posted people would have some fab ideas.

    Ah right, I see :D

County durham has lots to offer and it does not have to cost a fortune. Whilst the kids were on half term we went up to South Shields for the day and they have a lovely park with a big boating lake/train and its very nice. On route there are lots of little coves, beaches etc. Theres Marsden grotto in that area http://home.iprimus.com.au/shaka/marsdengrotto.html

You can get in a car and drive along the coast, its great fun but you must not forget Fish and chips cos you cant beat the seaside chippies :D

Hopefully others will reply with things to do in my area, ready for the Summer hols :D

    Hi

Boydells Farm at Wethersfield is cheap and very good! its a "real farm" and they give you a tour but you can get hands on with the animals, we bottlefed lambs and held chicks and collected eggs when we went and fed the donkey!!
