Ok, time to own up, I've messed up, big time!
I dont know too much about laptops but decided to try to clean it up a bit to speed it up as a newphew has been using it and too many games and things were opening at startup.
Now this is were you'll tell me how stupid I've been! I was experimenting with the start button and switching bits off to see it it would help. Laptop required a restart, which I did, and now nothing. And I mean nothing! The screen is'nt even lit up properly, it seems to be in a power saving mode. I can see the taskbar and the icons but everything I click on says error. I cant even get on the interent. Nor can I access troubleshooting.
No problem, I thought, I'll just do a system restore. But that wont work either, error message, system restore does not seem to be functionig on this system. A shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error.
And dont ask a silly question, of course I did'nt back up, I dont even know how to back up!
Yes, I'm in a bit of a mess here, with no-one to blame but myself. Is there anyone out there who can help (after you stop laughing at my stupidity)!:(

Thank you for asking. I went into something , not sure what startmig, or similar and turned the settings to turn off at start up.
Yes I suppose factory settings may be the only way to go!
Would be happy to try safe mode, what is that?0 -
F8 at boot.
need more info to help really, what did you turn off, with what program, and what errors do you get
go into the same program, and turn whatever you turned off, back on
do you need any data off it?!!

I was clicking willy-nilly, from the windows button on the bottom left. Yes, silly I know, just thought that any damage could have been fixed with a restore. Now I know different.

I guess you mean ctrl, alt, delete, is that boot? If so the screen saying lock, switch user etc has come up but f8 doesn't seem to have any effect.0 -
Its kinda weird, because all the photos and documents and even reading on kindle are all fine. The internet, windows security, avast, all the icons all say not connected or not working, and the dimness of the screen.0

Sounds like you have disabled all of the start-up programs in msconfig. Starting in safe mode and re enabling these should get you back on.0

clicking willy nilly from the start button doesn't mean much, what exactly were you doing? what is the operating system?
reboot, means shutdown and restart, and hold down F8 as you do to enter safe mode, assuming a reboot has not cured it.!!
