I've had skimmed ceilings painted (by the guys who done the ceiling when I had my last kitchen done) within 3-4 days if that, sure it was less
The builder I dealt with said wait a week, but he probably erred on the side of caution. Adding dehumidifiers speeds up the drying. I had my bathroom skimmed on wednesday, and tiled on friday morning, which was too soon. That might be why the tiles almost fell off as they had no adhesion. A proper tiler who saw it said it was tiled too soon. I imagine paint would be similar.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
just wait for it to dry out in a few days the new plaster will go a pale pink colour. If theyve skimmed over artex they will probably have used a base coat first and then a second top skim so It could take a little longer than usual. Use watered down emulsion 50/50 for your first coat, then 2/3 coats of your usual paint. Wilko will be fine for your very first coat, its only to seal it. The condensation will dissappear from your windows when the plaster drys out. Ive dealt with a few newly plastered walls in my time and have never waited longer than a week before painting..have never experienced any walls 'cracking'.0

I think it's more about making sure the paint adheres properly, one of the trades can confirm, or otherwise. I'm sure. I had quite a few cracks in my kitchen, on several walls most minor, but some near a boiler flu were large, and ~6" long. I've had quite a few in ceiling too, presumably due to movement of the joists. And within 6 months some cracks in coving appeared, and skirting joints too. Sigh. I think when you have plastering, there is so much moisture, that as it all dries, cracks appear.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
In terms of timing, we'll be starting painting two weeks after they started and one week after finishing... so should hopefully be ok on that front (though not the six weeks mentioned by someone)
So, should I be using the Wilkos 50-50 or will it be watery enough already (being cheap)? You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back0 -
Dulux - good quality? dont make me laugh

Johnsons one coat or Wickes emulsion paint is great.
Use what you have first as base coats.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Will ask the builders doing my soundproofing on Wednesday. Planning on redecorating and reflooring the whole house by the 1st December, so I don't want to wait too long to paint the skimmed, soundproofed party wallIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Better than all the "shed" paint is Leyland matt emulsion from Screwfix or elsewhere - no more expensive and goes on very nicely for your top coat (s)0
