    Have you not reported this?

Your employer can not do anything about it if they do not know it is happening.

I am sorry for your loss OP x

In my managerial days (such that they were), I used to ignore anyone going for a quick fag every couple of hours, so long as that was all it was. Any longer or more frequently on any more than an occasional basis and words were had.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

The company i work for is very selective on who can go outside for a fag outside the permitted breaks, it is always the same three people who work in the office, the office has a workforce of 9, but under no circumstances can anyone who works in the warehouse go outside for a fag, i asked the boss about this and he stated " its nothing to do with you"
The smoking ban never started with this company as the smokers frequently smoke inside in the hall way where the tea machine is located.

I did semi jokingly say to my supervisor on Friday that we non smokers should get an extra days holiday per month to compensate :D

The non-smokers would often join us for a chat while they had a coffee, some good ideas came about during a quick cigarette.
  • One possibly two in the morning but there are 'official' 15 minute breaks so the non-smokers aren't put out. Again one in the afternoon (as part of an 'official' break) and occasionally a last one at 4 if I am going to be staying way past 5.
Ten breaks is ridiculous, I would expect the boss to have words if I started doing that (plus I couldn't afford it).

Are you on an hourly wage or a salary? The only official break I know of is a break half way in a shift of at least 20 minutes if the working hours exceed 6 hours.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

In the most 'formal' organisations I've worked for, it was one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and you were expected to make the time up. BUT if any non-smoker needed a 'fresh air' break we could have one on the same terms.

I sometimes get 10 cups of tea during the working day, but I put the kettle on, go and do something, pour boiling water on the tea, go and do something else, remove tea bag and put milk in, return to desk and carry on working. If the phone or doorbell ring I deal with that, even if it means stewed tea.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Smoking is banned completely on the site where i work, including outside. Its a big site with lots of "outside". If you want to smoke you have to go outside the main gate, which for most is several hundred yards away. Even that is only allowed at lunchtime.

We aren't allowed any smoke breaks, Only at lunch time and right outside the gate, I'm a smoker but don't smoke at work any more, to much hassle to go right outside the gate etc in !!!!ing rain, I got an ecig and go to the toilet now and have a vape.
  • Had a little chat with my boss this morning, apparently he reckons a smoke break is a legal requirement!!! I have to grin and bear it then. Not happy but what can I do.

She's had 6 breaks already up till 12 noon.
