need a monitor for my PC with dvi input and am completely confused.

text needs to be very easy to read & will be doing some photo editing/graphic design work/ & video editing. I won't be using it for gaming

from what I understand IPS are the better screens, and found the LG IPS234V-PN 23 inch monitor which looks cheap £114 off eBuyer and is IPS.

shall I risk it?

any other suggestions?

Dell ultrasharp? But it is over £150.
  • yeah I did consider the dell ultrasharp. But it's:

    - 30% more expensive than the LG
    - has lower dynamic contrast ratio compared to the LG (2m vs 5m)
    - slightly better brightness (300cd/m2 vs 250 for the LG)

or can you not compare simply looking at the specs?

I Bought an LG flat screen over 10 years ago and is now being used on a second pc i cant knock them pc screens
  • I have an LG IPS225V bought earlier this year, used for developing HD video hardware (and as a PC monitor). Image quality is excellent. I have only two complaints :-

    1) Switching between DVI and HDMI inputs is slow and unreliable. Specifically if it doesn't like the video mode on the HDMI input, it (sometimes) goes to sleep and won't wake up to switch back to DVI.

    2) I never found any info on what modes it *will* accept on HDMI. Works well in 720p60, doesn't seem to work in 1080p25, at least from my source.
  • yeah thanks - LG IPS225V does seem to be the best value IPS monitor around. at 21.5" it's at the lower end size wize, but the pixel count is the same as larger monitors. The only other monitor which seemed to easily out-shine it was the Asus PA248Q, but that costs £350

the stand seems to be one of the biggest issues with it, so I think I'm going to buy a VESA desk mount, like Novus Jetmaster 2. It adds £30 to the total costing, but think it'll be worth it
  • I never tried the stand, but I do seem to recall it didn't look much good.

Bench space is too important to waste with a monitor stand - I have a vesa desk mount that allows me to move the monitor around, and only uses a tiny circle of bench space (and a single through bolthole)
