  • Its why I buy based on unit price - ie price PER ml, g, Kg, 100 sheets, nappy etc. I dont care what the actual pack costs, Im always comparing the UNIT cost.

We should all be doing the same - including the government when it calculates inflation, and therefore increases in linked benefits/pensions etc.

Actually purely one or the other are both poor solutions and from what I know of it the 'shopping basket' does account for size of units for many products. If you can buy eggs in 6, 12 or 24 packs but then it becomes 4 & 16 with the 4 being more and 16 being cheaper per unit have eggs gotten cheaper? It is if you need 16 eggs but if you only want ~6 it isn't. Additionally some products change in quality, content etc does that alter value?
