Hi can anybody help me, I have windows update turned on so that it downloads any updates in the background after prompting me and on the whole I am happy with this but every now and then an update comes up that I do not want and if I stop it installing it just keeps telling me there is an update to install. You cannot really see what one it is so I always say yes, only to find out it is the same one again and so I have to cancel.
So is there away that you can make it give up on certain downloads and move on to others, or is the only way to go to full manual and always have to check yourself for updates?
Any help appreciated.

why do you want some but not others?
https://www.windowsupdate.com hide update might work, but not sure whether auto updates override it.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

I'd have thought the auto update would overide all preferences, as it's down to MS what they consider a critical/essential update or not. But like you I'm not sure."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

if you mean you don't want the genuine validation tool, you cant click custom install and untick the WGA update, then choose not to be notified about this update again.
However if you're running a dodgy copy of XP, get it sorted to a legal one before the end of the year as XP won't be available to buy from January 2008.:: No Unauthorised Links in Signatures please - FM ::0 -

Partially true, system builders will still be able to get new licenses from 3rd parties until 2009."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

What has this got to do with anything?
Just because they stop bundling it with computers doesn't mean that they will stop supporting it.0
