Ebay advice

I bought a jacket which says it is extremely warm and turns out to be a summer weight jacket. I thought it would be a quilted lining but it turns out to be a nylon single layer jacket. The postage was charged at £3.95 but only cost £2.20 to post. What stars would be appropriate.

Am I oversimplifying the question by suggesting that out of a score of 1-5, since the average is 3 and 1 is the lowest possible, it falls between both, suggesting a score of 2 in most respects?

If you were mislead on description you could return it or leave lower stars. But postage should be a 5 stars - cos they charged you the postage you agreed to. No-one forced you to pay it. Clearly if postage had been lower - the price of the item would have been HIGHER - result = same price.
  • Email the buyer stating what you have said here. They might be very helpful about this. Do they have a refund policy?

On the other hand, a proper winter jacket like they were expecting would be heavier, so OP may have thought it was a fair price at the time, whereas now it is clearly not.

Also for postage, don't you have to take into consideration packaging?

A few pence-maybe 50p if feeling generous, certainly nothing over £1.

That was exactly what I thought.

I did email them and they told me to return it but no mention of whether they will refund postage. Not worth returning if they don't as I will be £6.00 out of pocket.

I used to buy a lot of ebay and haven't bought anything for a long time. This is the second similar thing to happen in a week.

They have to refund the p&p costs they charged you, so you'll be down the return costs.

I thought that it depended on whether they were private sellers of a business as to whether the p&p cost had to be refunded.

If the buyer opens and wins a case. eBay will always refund the full amount paid.

A seller that offers to refund the item price only, is on a hiding to nothing. First thing a buyer does (with that reply) is to open a case - and then neg you for good measure.
