PCN Advice

I received a penalty charge notice from Oldham Council which I challenged, I received an email telling me that my appeal had not been successful. I decided to pay the fine rather than challenge it again and phoned up the Payment Line to enter the PCN ticket details. The automated response is saying that my Penatly Charge notice is unable to be processed as it has been cancelled!!
Should I stay quiet in the hope that somehow my ticket has been mistakenly cancelled or would it be wise to contact the council to query my fine before it goes up??

  • My advice if it is a true Penalty Charge Notice issued by a Council then do not ignore it.

It may be just a problem on their end saying it has been cancelled but this does not mean you would be off the hook. Ignoring it could lead to bigger penalties being applied and ultimately court.

I would ask them over the phone and if they say it is cancelled ask them to provide you with written proof of such. This way, if they subsequently attempt to pursue you over it, you have some comeback with the letter.

Ask for the decision in writing.

Or keep a note of when you rang and who you spoke to.
