New clutch for Nissan Micra- is generic okay?

My wee Nissan Micra '02 needs a new clutch and cable. The garage who have adjusted it a couple of times have quoted me £288 inc labour but said that I can reduce the price by about £20-30 if I just go for a generic cable rather than proper Nissan one. They have said that the Nissan one would give a much, much better result than the cheaper one.
Has anyone any advice please? Does this seem reasonable?

If its just the cable then go for the aftermarket one.

With the clutch plate etc then only buy proper parts unless your fitting it and selling it soon after.

For the sake of 30 quid, go for the proper job.

Do you need a complete new clutch, a pricey job on a lttle pudde-jumper like that? Or has the cable stretched and ran out of adjustment?

Needed a new clutch and cable. Also a new CV joint which I didn't know about.
Got it done yesterday using the proper parts rather than the the cheap ones. Thanks for the advice.
My dh got a good deal in the end from a trusted friend of a friend. I am looking forward to driving it today! He says it's like driving a new car..... brilliant! Before, when you depressed the clutch pedal it was like putting your foot down on a brick! I was used to it, but it was getting worse.

Go on then, tell me......... was there anything else I could have done? It was exactly as you described. No further room for adjustment.

You could conceivably had a little more time on a fresh, unstretched new cable (bowden cables do, despite what people assert, stretch). BUT! Micras generally have ridiculously feather-light clutches, so if yours was heavy, more than likely your clutch was on its way out. Your happy.
