Car insurance pay out query on car not worth fixing

Hi. I have a Y reg. Honda CRV which I use for work. It is a bit bumped and scratched with 62,000 milage. Someone went into the back of it, admitted libility, all insurance sorted out. Before I put it in to be fixed I had it mot'd a month early and was shocked to be told that it had failed with at least a £1000 worth of work needing doing! My car is not worth that! I need a car to get me about in my work but don't have a good credit record. Also I am an older person and not well off. I was told by the garage that did the MOT that it should really be scrapped. If this is the case, what is the point in getting it mended.
I anticipate putting it in Part ex for a cheap run around and paying the extra in cash.
Would the insurers give me the amount it would have taked to put right the damage so that I could put it towards the "new" car? It just seems ludicrous to have a car mended for it to be scrapped.
Thank you

No. You will receive the market value of the vehicle at the time of the loss.
