energyhelpline.com

I'm really disappointed with the service received by energyhelpline.com who I used following advice from this website. I signed up in August for a deal with ScottishPower and received an email saying that my application would be put on hold until the end of September, when my deal with my previous supplier ran out. energyhelpline.com said that they would process my application after 30th September and that ScottishPower would be in contact after 6 weeks.

After this time had passed I still hadn't heard anything. I emailed energyhelpline.com to see what had happened but had no response. Today I called energyhelpline.com and they said that the ScottishPower deal had closed before they processed my application, and that they'd endeavoured to contact relevant customers to advise them of this. When I questioned more, they said that they had used a third party to let me know, and they had no proof that this third party had ever been in contact with me. I never received any contact from energyhelpline.com to let me know of this situation.

I am now stuck in my previous energy contract with the prices hiked up and have no options available to me, despite acting in what I thought was a timely manner to keep my energy bills low. I would advise any person using these forums to not use energyhelpline.com to look for cheap energy supplies as they are liable to treat you the same way as I have been treated, and should not be trusted!

The advice generally given on this forum is to use a comparison site such as energyhelpline to find out who is likely to be the cheapest provider and to give you some idea of the savings.

THEN do not use the comparison site to manage the switch, do it yourself direct with the chosen suppliers site or if possible via a cashback site such as topcashback/quidco. That way you are in control of events and you will benefit from any cashback rather than the comparison site.

I would advise any person using these forums to CARRY ON using energyhelpline in the manner I suggest above.

Here is the advice from MSE Martin & his team

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity

Whilst it does indeed suggest looking to dedicated cashback sites to maximise any possible cashback, it then suggests if such sites cannot better the comparison sites, then to use the comparison sites via the unique MSE links to secure cashback that way if possible.

MSE Martin also says do not base any decision on the possibility of cashback as cashback is not guaranteed until it is deposited in your bank account :)

This is a default option that energyhelpline.com offer when you are tied into an existing contract.

This is always a risk when doing this that a tariff you apply for is no longer available come the day it is applied for by EHL on your behalf.

You could have asked EHL not to delay the switch, which is an option they provide, which would have guaranteed you the tariff you applied for but may have incurred you in early exit fees from your existing tariff at the time.

    Your decision. :)
