I obviously don't know if this applies to any of the above cases, but nobody should ever appoint a solicitor or other professional as an executor, simply because -
[1] they will quite legitimately charge a fee for being an executor before they even start work and
[2] other executors can appoint a solicitor of their choice to help if they need assistance and can also sack him/her if they are not getting reasonable service.
Who told me this? My solicitor.
Agreed. The majority of the work involved in being an executor doesn't require a law degree, nor any formal qualification.0
