Staples does not make it easy

Placed an order on-line in the UK on the Sunday with next day delivery (expecting realistically to arrive on the Tuesday).
Had an email on Monday from their despatch team to call, they had missing info (even though all the info is correct on my account), but that it would be dispatched and arrive on Tuesday.

Nothing on Tuesday so checked on-line with TNT, they had a note on the tracker to call, did this and just had an automated message saying that the delivery address was unkown. Phoned Staples (premium rate number), who had the correct address and new nothing else, was told it would be delivered the next day.

On the Wednesday morning, nothing, checked TNT again to see the same message, phoned Staples and was told that we "shouldn't have been told it would be delivered today", and that it wouldn't be delivered today. In the evening had the same message on the TNT website, phoned TNT (free number) and was told by TNT that they hadn't been given the package yet by Staples. Phoned Staples (again) was told "we could just wait", or if we really needed they could put it through as a new order, which I did and got an email confirmation.

Thursday morning checked TNT website to see the same message, this time about the new order, phoned Staples (again) and was told that they could confirm that the first order was on the TNT van, but that they had no information on the second order. Thursday pm the first order arrives, on opening the box four of the items are damaged and one is missing. Phoned Staples (again) arranged replacement items to be delivered to our local store and was told the replacement items and the missing item would be ready for pick up the next day, BUT that we would have to be in again the following week so that TNT could pick up the damaged items.

20 minutes later Staples phone me to check the order, it seems that the missing item was still missing from the order, and to say that it would be ready for collection next week as the order was placed too late for next day. I said this was not acceptable as this was all their fault and that they had to make sure it available for collection the next day. I was told that they would check this and ring back, as of writting this it is three hours latter and no one has phoned and the support line is now closed.

TL:DR - poor service, damaged goods and given the complete run around - do not order on-line from Staples
