A couple of times recently my Medion lappy (Vista) has crashed. After startup, I noticed that the CPU usage widget was constantly fluctuating between 50 and 60% for ages. A look in the Task Manager reveals that the culprit is a file entitled NMindexStore.... Googling this, I see that this problem has been recognised in the past and the solution is quite simple.
MsConfig, startup tab, look for the nero scout/nmindexstoresvr.exe and untick the box next to it, click OK and restart. So far so good, however...... When I am in the startup screen there are two entries for Nero :-
Startup Item (i) Nero AG NeroCheck, Command C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Ahead\Lib\NeroCheck.exe
(ii) NeroHome, Command,C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Ahead\Lib\NMBgMonitor.exe
Could someone tell me please, which box to untick or do I have to untick both of them.
I only use Nero once in a blue moon, I find that it will sometimes play dvd s that won’t play on media player. Anticipatory thanks.

Have you tried going into the Nero preferences and disabling Nero Scout? If possible it's better to try going through the program itself rather than msconfig.
Of the two you've mentioned, it's the second one that is likely the one you are looking for as this process scans your drive new media files and can use up a fair amount of resources.

both of them
you may also want to run
chkdsk c: /F
to make sure there are no hd corruptions.!!

+1 After installing Nero I always disabled the start-up options, you wont experience any difference when using the software ... unless you actually use Nero Scout!
Also if it is crashing under load you may want to check that the laptop isn't overheating.0 -
I disabled the one that john referred to and the prob is now sorted. I will have a go at checkdsk as soon as it starts raining, (got shedloads to do outside at the moment). I hoover the fans every fortnight, (sad). It only crashed when I was online, I've used it offline for literally hours and it was fine.
Many thanks for all your responses0
