I'm currently on EDF 'fix for 2012' so can't move before 31st Dec 2012 (or I have to pay £50 penalty). On that date they will move me to their expensive std tariff - unless I tell them before that that I plan to leave, and then the new supplier contacts them within 14 days.
I know switching takes 4-6 wks, but am struggling to work out what this means for when I should contact the new supplier. ie should I do it 4 wks before end of December? Or leave it until the end of the year?
Thanks if anyone knows how it works.
PS new supplier will prob be nPower

I would call EDF and npower and ask them for advice.
I have switched recently, and I know that you get the tariff which is valid at the day you say you want to switch, as opposed to what is available when you switch. So you may get a better rate with npower if you request to switch now.
I can't help though about ensuring you don't incurr the switch costs with your current supplier, but they should be honest if you ask them...0 -
Switch after 1/12, it's rarely less than 4 weeks. No free lunch, and no free laptop
