Sainsburys Price Check January 2014

Hi,

I was just accosted in my local Sainsburys and offered the Sainsburys Price Check January 2014 energy plan. I didn’t sign up to anything, but the offer seemed quite favourable. I’m currently with E-On, and as predicated on here, their prices are set to rise in January. Im paying around £95/month for Gas and Elec with Eon. With this Sainsburys offer, it works out at £85 per month until Jan 2014. Not a massive saving but with the expected price hike in Jan for E-on it seems quite favourable.

I’m not clear though on how the Price check system works. If the lowest rate on the market goes up and its still the lowest rate, would my price also go up?

Any advice on this sort of deal, am I best looking for a fixed deal somewhere, if I can find one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m still getting my head around how the energy market works.

Thanks

Presumably when you were "accosted", you didn't happen to have your annual kWh usage figures for gas and electricity to hand, so it was just based on current monthly spend.
Just about any energy supplier can tell you they'll reduce your monthly direct debit compared to what you are currently paying. They don't mention that you could end up owing them a bundle after a year though....
Put your annual kWh usage into a comparison site - you can probably get it fom your recent bill(s) and see where Sainsbury's comes out in comparison to what it says you should be paying at the moment on your E.On tariff.
