Do you ever have savings breaks?

For the last 5 years ive been saving hard towards a house deposit. Next payday i will have reached that goal and more. In my original plan i would still be short of my goal by 1st Jan 2013 but from cutting back alot I am now exceeding my goal. Should i take the whole Dec pay to have a big shopping spree and wonderful xmas or should i just keep going. A part of me wants to splurge but ive been saving for so long don't know if i could bring myself to spend a whole month's wage again.

Does anyone have saving breaks where they go a month or two without saving a penny? :o I know when January comes i will go back to it but its tempted to have a whole month's wage to do whatever i want with.

Why does it have to be all or nothing?

If you really want something, can afford it, will use or enjoy it, then buy it - but to suggest you might spend a whole month's salary just for the sake of it because you've been saving for a while, seems plain daft to me

Instead of blowing the whole lot (+ possibly regretting it afterwards). Why dont you treat yourself to something you would perhaps not usually buy for yourself. An early Christmas prezzie if you like.
Then as usual add money saved to your 'deposit pot'. You could even begin a new one because with buying a home comes added expense with things needed to furnish that home.
    Back on the trains again!

  • for me, it is not a good idea. you can spend of course. but saving is the most important part in our life. but think about it over and over again. you dont want to wakeup in the morning regretting it, right?

In the greater scheme of things, a month off isn't likely to affect your financial position a great deal.

If it was me, I'd have that break as a reward for having beaten my target. I might have thought differently, however, if I was paying off debt.

    Well done. Enjoy! :j

Do what you want to do. No one here can give a comment on this one.

Although, if you've reached 100% of your goal for a house deposit - do you now need to save to furnish it, or pay for estate agents/solicitors?
