Terrible customer service from First Utility

I recently applied to change my gas and electricity supply from BG to First Utility on a fixed deal till March 2014. I worked out from their figures that my annual spend would be approx £1041 and that would require a monthly direct debit of £87.
Things started to go wrong when I received a letter from FU to say that things were progressing with the move on a fixed rate till March 2012?. An email was then received shortly after apologising for the error. The letter should have shown 2014!
The next day I got an email saying that the anticipated spend would be £1380 and that they were going to request a direct debit payment from my bank for £115 and on 23rd November even though they did not expect to start supplying power until at least 26th November.
I have sent three emails now asking where they get their figures from to justify the payments and also stating that I do not want them to start charging me for a service that they have not supplied. As of today I have had no reply so I telephoned and after 25 minutes of listening to a answerphone message saying that they were experiencing high volumes of calls (no wonder!!) I hung up.
I have cancelled the direct debit that they have set up and told them that I want to stay with BG

You are no longer entitled to cancel a switch after the expiry of the cooling-off period. You are however entitled to transfer back on liability for any First Utility early termination charges.
