Evening - guests vs. food

Ours is hot buffet with chilli etc (so not sandwiches or nibbles) so we've stated this and also said it will be served at 7.45 s evening guests know they'll get fed (I hate going to an evening reception and not knowing if the food will be at 9 or whenever, i like to plan my food ha ha).
We get married at 4 and so we aren't catering in numbers for those who would have been fed at 5 again in the evening.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Also to say that normally in my experienc the evening buffet is served about 10pm during the break in the music. Why are some serving food so early or is the later time a Scottish thing?

Nope it's normally late at the one's I've been at. (Live in north east).
We are having our at 7.45 as it's all in the same room and everyone is there fore the night do, not the wedding, so it's feed the guests, then PARTY!
EDITED TO ADD - Plus I'm Irish so we normally have food again at around 2am and a wedding reception finishes at about 5am...........Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
We'll let the venue know exact numbers a bit closer to the time, but the room states it can take 120 for the evening, though with that I'm thinking we should take the slightly larger room, I don't want it to seem squashed!
The "light buffet" text is an excellent idea. I'm also hoping to get a cheese "groom's" cake. Will be looking at Sainsburys deli to see if it can be done nicely but a bit cheaper than ones like the M&S one, especially as it'll involve the same work re. setting it up and decorating.
I'm thinking of chatting to the venue to see if they're ok with a sweet table, I'm sure they will be. It's just that they said we can't bring extra food in, but hopefully they just meant french bread etc.!
The tips about only catering for 2/3 - 3/4 of the people are great. Also veering more towards food that can't be eaten easily with fingers! I've looked into self-catering, but the venue package does the whole day, and if we don't do a local package there's a lot more travelling to a registry office big enough.
The current plan is to put on a big supply of bacon rolls. The package deal gives a buffet for 40, of 4 things each. I'd be munching more than 4 "mini sausages in a 'honey' glaze"!
Thanks all

Personally, the very worst thing that can happen to me at a wedding is leaving hungry...but, if you put "light buffet" as suggested, I'd eat beforehand, so it shouldn't be a problem.0

You could always invoke the FHB rule....Family Hold Back!0

We are having around 125 guests at our evening do. We too were struggling with the cost of feeding ALL the evening guests aswell as the 60 day guests. Our venue offers an option of hot roast sandwiches as part of the evening food. We have decided on that option, although we will have to cater for all 125 it works out the cheapest option. We too are going to put that on the evening invites so people know to have some tea/supper before they come. I do agree that there is nothing worse than people going to a party and being hungry (we are all big eaters) so if it is mentioned that there will be light food it's their responsibility to eat beforehand.0

Lunch at 12-1 seems fairly a standard time to me.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Just a word of warning about catering for fewer than 100% of your guests - your venue may not provide enough plates/cutlery/napkins etc. If you have 100 guests, but only cater (pay) for 60, what are the other 40 going to eat off/with?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
