Deleting everything from an iPhone 3GS

I got a 4S recently so I figured I may as well sell the 3GS and see what I can get for it. There's a problem with it so i'll be selling for spares and repairs, something with the battery i think. It's a charging issue but everything else works fine, makes calls fine and all the apps still work etc.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone knew how to delete everything from it. I can't connect it to my mac as it's no longer recognising it or connecting to itunes (think this ties in with the charging issues).

I've asked on the apple support forum but it can be a while for an answer on there.
