Open a NPB & that way No feedback can be left.

Also keep a eye on their bidding pattern, as its just another cop out.

I doubt a Death cert would be issued that quick & she could photograph it with a phone etc & attach it to the eBay message.

My Grandad died in Hospital on a Sunday a couple months ago, death certificate was issued the following Tuesday because there wasn't much doubt and no need for a post-mortem.

It can happen that quick in the right circumstances.

OK, although if my mam had just died, the last thing I would be concerned with is an eBay auction she'd won.
  • OP, was the item you were selling a coffin?

I've been in a similar situation and as I use Ebay as part of my business didn't have much choice but to contact buyers. I'm not sure if I had only been a buyer I would have bothered but it is possible. There's time to do other things to take your mind of grieving.

I've no idea if this particular buyer is genuine but there's no way I would immediately call them a liar, people do die unexpectedly.

  • but how would she know her password? and i doubt a terminally ill person with days to go would be sitting buying items she isn't going to need. or would be well enough to buy.

It's not difficult to know someone else's password, especially close family. Someone terminally ill may have days, weeks or years and not know which it will be at any point.

As I said this could very well be made up but I would never immediately call someone a liar. As I can see it could initially have been genuinely explained:

Message 1 stated that they couldn't pay until Saturday, she may have been going to hospital and expected to be out on Saturday (terminally ill people can come and go out of hospital quite often).
Message 2 came and said the mother had died on the Monday.

OP then replied calling the buyer a liar, at that point I'd say that was harsh at the least.

It sounds like this buyer is a liar but not everyone who ever claims they have had a death in the family will be lying.

Didn't we have a very similar thread recently? Someone suggested a very good message to send. It was something along the lines of:

Sorry to hear of your loss and I'm sure the last thing you want to deal with at this difficult time is Ebay and Paypal. So I think the best thing is that I contact Paypal and ask them to sort this out so you don't need to do anything.

    Then open your NPB claim.
  • My dead bidder has managed to buy some BIN items since dying so I am pleased I listened to you all and raised the NPB - she obviously just changed her mind.....
